Zilch invests $98M in a new London HQ, doubling office space after a $162M raise. Here's what it signals for the UK fintech ecosystem.

Zilch, the British payments unicorn with 6 million customers, just made a move that tells you a lot about where European fintech is heading. The company is committing roughly $98 million (€91 million) to double its London office capacity, shifting to a much larger headquarters in Victoria. That's not pocket change. It's a statement. And it comes right after a $162 million debt and equity raise in November 2025. So clearly, Zilch isn't sitting still. ### The new HQ: More than just square footage The new space? Floors four and five of 40 Grosvenor Place. That's 33,160 square feet—enough room for over 400 employees. The investment covers a 10-year lease, and the goal is simple: scale operations and create more jobs in the UK. Philip Belamant, co-founder and CEO, put it this way: > "It has been a transformational year for the business with a number of significant milestones, and our customers moving beyond £8 billion of spend across every region in the UK. As we continue to expand rapidly, our new headquarters reflect the scale of our ambition and the momentum behind our growth." That £8 billion in customer spend? That's over $10 billion. Not bad for a company founded in 2018. ### A fintech ecosystem on fire Zilch's move isn't happening in a vacuum. European consumer credit and payments are buzzing with activity in 2026. Just look at some of the recent raises: - **Primer** (UK) raised $93 million for AI-powered payments infrastructure. - **Vuelo** (UK) secured $69 million for travel financing. - **Plend** (UK) obtained a credit facility of up to $63 million. - **ID Finance** (Barcelona) secured $588 million in debt and equity for its Plazo platform. - **BCAS** (Madrid) raised $32 million for education financing. - **Sokin** (London) secured $89 million. - **Ryft** (Manchester) closed a $25 million Series B. Together, that's roughly $960 million in disclosed financing and credit facilities during 2026. The UK fintech sector, in particular, is a rich and highly active ecosystem—and that's the competitive backdrop for Zilch's growth. City Minister Rt Hon Lucy Rigby KC MP added: "This is a major milestone for Zilch and it's brilliant to see their continued success. The UK is a FinTech powerhouse and I'm committed to backing the sector to thrive and grow." ### What's next for Zilch? The new HQ is just the latest in a series of big moves. The company is acquiring Fjord Bank (announced in January 2026), which is expected to complete in the first half of 2027 and will lay the foundation for European expansion. There's also a multi-year strategic partnership with Visa and a deal to become Arsenal FC's Official Way to Pay. So what does this all mean? For one, Zilch is doubling down on its home market even as it eyes Europe. And with $98 million going into a 10-year lease, they're clearly planning to stick around. For founders and investors watching the space, the message is clear: the UK fintech engine is still roaring. And Zilch just put a very expensive stake in the ground.
