### iGii's Big Bet on a Material That Could Change Manufacturing
What if the next industrial revolution doesn't start with software or AI, but with a material so versatile it can replace platinum and gold in everything from sensors to batteries? That's the bet iGii is making. The Stirling-based advanced materials company just raised €26.49 million (about $28 million) to commercialize Gii, its proprietary carbon nanomaterial. The funding round includes a €13.65 million ($14.4 million) Series B led by the Scottish National Investment Bank, with PXN Ventures and Archangels also participating, plus €12.84 million ($13.6 million) from Scottish Enterprise.
### Why This Material Matters
Gii isn't mined or compounded. It's grown—at room temperature, no less—and can scale to industrial volumes. That's a big deal when you consider how much pressure global supply chains are under. Critical materials like platinum and gold are concentrated in a few regions, and geopolitical uncertainty makes access even trickier. iGii's timing is spot-on: manufacturers are desperate for high-performance alternatives that reduce reliance on constrained supply.
### What Gii Can Do
According to iGii, Gii integrates with biological, chemical, and physical systems in ways conventional materials can't. The same material can be used across multiple applications and industries, including:
- Multi-analyte sensing
- Microheaters
- Flexible printed battery electrodes
That kind of versatility gives manufacturers a platform to differentiate their next-gen products without reinventing the wheel for every new use case.
### From Lab to Factory Floor
iGii was founded in 2016 and has spent years proving Gii's capabilities and building manufacturing capacity. Now, with this funding, the company plans to shift from R&D into execution. Over the next 12 to 24 months, the focus will be on deepening engagements with some of the world's biggest manufacturers and converting existing relationships into long-term partnerships.

As Adrian Gillespie, Chief Executive of Scottish Enterprise, put it: "iGii's technology is an exciting, sustainable and scalable alternative to constrained raw materials which will help build resilience in global supply chains."
DeepTech companies often need long-term backing to bridge the gap between breakthrough research and commercial success. This funding package—combining private investment, patient capital, and targeted public sector support—shows how Scotland's innovation ecosystem gets behind its biggest opportunities.
