Portuguese EdTech Intuitivo raises $1.4M to ease teachers' workload and expand into Brazil, a market with over 2.2 million teachers.

Intuitivo, a Portuguese EdTech startup on a mission to lighten teachers' administrative loads, just closed a $1.4 million Seed round (€1.35M). The investment will fuel product development and a bold expansion into Brazil—a market with over 2.2 million teachers. ### Who's Backing Intuitivo? The round was led by Caixa Capital and the Impact Innovation Fund, managed by 3xP Global under the Venture Capital Programme of the Capitalisation and Resilience Fund (FdCR), administered by Banco Português de Fomento, Portugal's development bank. Global accelerator Techstars, COREangels Lisboa and COREangels Porto also participated, alongside Angels Way, the first Portuguese fund structured as a community, pooling together 436 small investors. ### Born from a Teacher's Request Founded in 2021 by João Guimarães, Duarte Oliveira, and Diogo Silva, Intuitivo is a digital assessment platform that lets educators create, schedule, and grade tests and deliver feedback to students—from primary school to higher education. Teachers can build assessments from scratch, pull from a shared exercise library, or use AI to convert old PDF tests into interactive, auto-graded digital versions. Students access tests via a single link—no account or software installation needed. > "Intuitivo was born from a teacher's request and continues to be developed together with teachers. Our goal is simple: to give time back to those who teach," said Guimarães, co-founder and CEO. ### Solving a Well-Documented Problem The platform addresses a critical issue: OECD's TALIS 2024 survey found that actual teaching accounts for just 43% of a teacher's working time, with Portugal ranking first among 44 countries in time spent on assessment and grading. Intuitivo also provides real-time monitoring during live assessments, built-in anti-cheating mechanisms, and automatic performance statistics broken down by student, class, and exercise. School leadership benefits from a centralized dashboard to track results and teacher adoption across an institution. - **Time savings:** Intuitivo estimates it helps teachers save around 165,000 hours in the 2025/26 school year alone. - **Traction:** 75,000 registered teachers and over 200 contracts with municipalities, school clusters, and private schools, covering more than 500 schools across Portugal. ### Why Brazil Is the Natural Next Step The fresh funding will nearly double headcount from 11 to 20 employees by the end of this year and support expansion into Brazil, a market estimated at 2.2 million teachers—roughly twelve times the size of Portugal's. "Brazil is the natural step: it speaks our language, has more than 2 million teachers, teachers there adopt digital tools easily, and some already use Intuitivo. We want to take what we have built in Portugal there, on a much bigger scale," added Guimarães. With this raise, Intuitivo is well-positioned to ease teachers' workloads across borders and make a real impact on education.
