### A Big Win for Spatial Biology Stockholm's Pixelgen Technologies just closed an oversubscribed Series B round of $15.5 million (€13.26 million). For a company that emerged from stealth less than three years ago, that kind of investor enthusiasm says a lot about the potential of its technology. The round was led by new investor Flat Capital, with existing backers Industrifonden and Navigare Ventures doubling down. Along with the cash, Pixelgen is adding two heavy hitters to its board: Flat Capital CEO Rickard El Tarzi and life sciences veteran Ramon Felciano, Ph.D. ### What Does Pixelgen Actually Do? Here's where things get interesting. Most proteomic tools measure how much of a protein is present in a sample. Pixelgen's Proxiome Kit does something different—it maps where proteins are located, how they're clustered, and how they're organized on the surface of individual cells. Think of it this way: traditional proteomics tells you what's in the room. Pixelgen tells you how the furniture is arranged. This nanoscale resolution is powered by the company's Proximity Network Assay, which enables high-dimensional analysis of cell surface architecture. The implications are significant for researchers studying immunology, hematology, oncology, and cell therapy. ### Why This Matters for Drug Development The ability to see protein organization on cell surfaces opens doors that abundance measurements alone can't unlock. Disease mechanisms often involve not just how much of a protein exists, but how it's positioned relative to other proteins. The company emerged from stealth in December 2022 after a $6 million seed round led by Navigare Ventures. CEO and co-founder Fredriksson says the new capital will accelerate global commercialization of the Proxiome Kit and expand the company's presence in key markets. The plan includes growing the team, expanding the product portfolio, and bringing molecular cell architecture mapping to more researchers worldwide. With the board now including both financial and scientific expertise, Pixelgen appears well-positioned for its next phase. The combination of a differentiated platform, strong investor backing, and clear commercial traction suggests this Swedish biotech is one to watch in the spatial biology space.
