Paris-based Apolownia raises $1.1M to scale coastal restoration and blue carbon projects. The startup's BlueRizon mangrove initiative in Indonesia could benefit over 100,000 people.

The Paris-based startup, which specializes in restoring coastal ecosystems, just closed its first Seed round at $1.1 million. The funding came from LITA, Bpifrance, and a group of business angels and individual investors who clearly believe in the power of nature-based solutions. ### Why Coastal Restoration Matters More Than Ever Here's the thing about the climate crisis: cutting emissions alone isn't enough anymore. "By mastering the entire chain, we are our clients' single point of contact, from the field to the measurement of impact." ### The BlueRizon Project: A Case Study in Scale Apolownia's flagship project, BlueRizon, is a mangrove restoration effort in Indonesia targeting more than 9,800 acres. That's roughly the size of 7,400 football fields. It's being developed with local partners, and the official launch is slated for the third quarter of 2026. The scale of human impact here is staggering: - More than 3,000 people are already involved in the project's implementation - Over 100,000 people could ultimately benefit through climate resilience - The project addresses erosion control, sea-level rise adaptation, and biodiversity restoration ### A Different Kind of Carbon Project What sets Apolownia apart is its commitment to what they call "high-integrity" carbon projects. In an industry that's been plagued by greenwashing accusations, this matters. Their approach combines: - Satellite remote sensing and geospatial analysis for monitoring - Drones and 3D modeling for precise measurement - Advanced MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) systems - AI-powered digital tools - On-the-ground teams handling community engagement and land-tenure issues This hybrid approach—tech plus human presence—is their answer to the sector's fragmentation problem. Instead of juggling multiple contractors and consultants, Apolownia centralizes the entire development chain, from site identification to long-term follow-up. ### What's Next for Apolownia? With this fresh capital, the company plans to scale its model, push forward with BlueRizon, and strengthen its structuring and deployment capacity. They're also investing heavily in science, technology, and monitoring capabilities.
