Pandektes, a Copenhagen-based LegalTech startup, raises $14.6M to revolutionize legal research with AI-driven data infrastructure. The platform already serves 500+ firms and is expanding to North America.

Legal research has long been dominated by a few big names, but a Copenhagen startup just raised a hefty Series A to change that. Pandektes, founded in 2022, secured €13.5 million (about $14.6 million) to build the data infrastructure for AI-powered legal research. The round was led by Alstin Capital, with participation from PROfounders, Scale Capital, and existing investors. This follows a €2.9 million seed round last year. ### Why Pandektes Stands Out Most legal professionals know the pain: outdated systems, clunky interfaces, and data that's hard to access. Pandektes aims to fix that by continuously collecting, structuring, and connecting legal information from thousands of sources—legislation, court decisions, administrative rulings, and more. It then combines that with an organization's own data to deliver faster, more reliable research. > "We have rarely seen a market like legal research, where so many end-users would like to switch their core system but historically simply couldn't," said Andreas Schenk, Managing Partner at Alstin Capital. "Pandektes is building a modern data infrastructure for the entire European legal landscape that makes exactly that possible." That's a bold claim, but the traction suggests they're onto something. The platform is already used by over 500 law firms, enterprises, and public institutions across Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland. Revenue grew sixfold in the past year, and about two-thirds of organizations that trial the platform become paying customers. ### The AI Advantage Building a serious challenger to incumbents like LexisNexis, Westlaw, Beck, and Karnov was once deemed impossible. But AI has changed the game. "Today, we can collect and make sense of legal information at a scale that was not feasible before," said Casper Laursen, co-founder and CEO. "That fundamentally changes what legal research can be." Instead of just replacing legacy platforms, Pandektes wants to be the foundational data layer for any legal tech product. Through its API, it supplies accurate, structured legal data that others can build on. "We believe the next generation of legal products will only be as good as the data they are built on," Laursen added. "To create systems legal professionals can truly trust, that data needs to be structured and optimized from the ground up for AI agents and other AI systems." ### What's Next? The new capital will fuel expansion across Europe and North America, with the goal of making cross-border legal research consistent and accessible. Pandektes also plans to grow its team and further open its technology infrastructure through the API. For an industry where switching costs have been high and innovation limited, Pandektes is a breath of fresh air. It's not just about building another legal research tool—it's about laying the groundwork for a smarter, more connected legal ecosystem. And with AI as the engine, the possibilities are vast.
