NEURA Robotics partners with Austria's NXAI to integrate xLSTM memory tech into its Physical AI stack, giving cognitive robots the ability to remember over long sequences. Here's what it means.
Remember when robots could only do one thing at a time? Those days are fading fast. NEURA Robotics, the German unicorn making waves in cognitive robotics, just announced a partnership with Austria's NXAI to tackle one of the biggest challenges in physical AI: memory.
Here's the deal: NEURA is combining its Physical AI stack with xLSTM, a recurrent architecture from NXAI that efficiently maintains and updates state over long sequences. Think of it as giving robots a better short-term memory, so they can handle tasks that unfold over time.
### Why Memory Matters for Robots
"A robot that truly helps in everyday life and in industry must be able to remember," says David Reger, founder and CEO of NEURA Robotics. "With Neuron AI, we have the foundation. With Neuraverse, we are creating the platform on which other powerful AI approaches can also find their way into robots."
That's where NXAI comes in. Founded in 2023 by Prof. Dr. Sepp Hochreiter, the Linz-based DeepTech company is all about translating cutting-edge AI research into market-ready products. Their xLSTM model is fast, memory-efficient, and can maintain its state over long sequences โ perfect for robots that need to remember what they just did.
"Memory and experience are essential for robots to reliably solve tasks involving many steps," says Hochreiter. "Together with NEURA, we are bringing this strength to Physical AI โ from Europe for the world."
### NEURA's Meteoric Rise
This partnership is just the latest chapter in NEURA's impressive growth story. The Metzingen-based company has been on a tear:
- 2023: Secured โฌ15 million from InterAlpen Partners, following a โฌ52 million round earlier that year.
- September 2024: Total funding reportedly reached โฌ148.67 million.
- January 2025: Raised a โฌ120 million Series B, doubling its workforce to over 300 employees and increasing revenue tenfold.
- June 2026: Announced a Series C of up to โฌ1.2 billion.
- Recent acquisitions: Adlatus Robotics, expanding into mobile logistics and autonomous cleaning.
In USD, that's roughly $16 million, $56 million, $160 million, $130 million, and a whopping $1.3 billion, respectively. Not bad for a company founded in 2019.
### What This Means for Customers
The integration isn't just about tech โ it's about giving companies flexibility. With the Neuraverse platform, businesses can tailor the NXAI model to their own tasks, test it in NEURA Gyms, and deploy it on suitable robots. That means you can use different model approaches within the same training and application environment.
And don't worry โ Neuron AI, NEURA's own multimodal foundation model, isn't going anywhere. It will continue to be developed independently. The partnership simply adds another option to the platform and includes joint research. Companies retain control over their process knowledge and decide whether to share data and capabilities.
### The Bigger Picture
NEURA contributes its Physical AI stack: multimodal foundation models, robotics, sensor technology, real-world training data from NEURA Gyms, and the industrial deployment platform. NXAI brings decades of AI research and a fundamentally different approach to memory. Together, they're building robots that can see, hear, feel, learn โ and now, remember.
It's a classic European collaboration: two strengths, one goal. Physical AI from Europe, for the world. And if NEURA's track record is anything to go by, this is just the beginning.
