NEURA Robotics partners with NXAI to give robots long-term memory using xLSTM, a move that could transform physical AI and industrial automation.
NEURA Robotics just made a move that could change how robots remember the world. The German robotics unicorn announced a partnership with Austria's NXAI to build a memory system for cognitive robots. It's a big deal for physical AI, and here's why.
### What's the Deal?
NEURA is combining its Physical AI stack with xLSTM, a recurrent architecture from NXAI that efficiently maintains and updates state over long sequences. In plain English: robots will get better at remembering things over time. NXAI plans to make its own model, based on xLSTM, available on the Neuraverse platform. It'll sit alongside NEURA's own foundation model, Neuron AI.
"A robot that truly helps in everyday life and in industry must be able to remember," says David Reger, founder and CEO of NEURA Robotics. "With Neuron AI, we have the foundation. With Neuraverse, we are creating the platform on which other powerful AI approaches can also find their way into robots."
### Why Memory Matters
Think about it. A robot that can't remember its last action is like a goldfish—smart maybe, but forgetful. For tasks that involve many steps, memory is essential. "Memory and experience are essential for robots to reliably solve tasks involving many steps," says Prof. Dr. Sepp Hochreiter, founder of NXAI. "xLSTM is built for this; it is fast, memory-efficient and can maintain its state over long sequences."
### NEURA's Growth Story
NEURA has been on a tear. Here's a quick rundown:
- 2023: Secured $16.2 million from InterAlpen Partners, following a $56.2 million round earlier that year.
- September 2024: Raised $160.6 million in total.
- January 2025: Added a $129.7 million Series B, doubling its workforce to over 300 employees and increasing revenue tenfold.
- June 2026: Announced a Series C of up to $1.3 billion.
- Acquired Adlatus Robotics, expanding into mobile logistics and autonomous cleaning.
That's a lot of momentum for a company founded in 2019.
### Who Are These Companies?
NEURA, based in Metzingen, Germany, develops cognitive robots that can see, hear, feel, and learn. They also build the software, AI, and data infrastructure needed for large-scale deployment.
NXAI, founded in 2023 in Linz, Austria, is a DeepTech company focused on industrial applications. Their mission is to bridge the gap between AI research and industry, with a focus on xLSTM models for time series and robotics.
### What This Means for Businesses
The integration will let companies tailor the NXAI model to their own tasks using the Neuraverse toolchain. They can test it in NEURA Gyms and deploy it on suitable robots. This means customers can use different model approaches within the same training and application environment. Neuron AI remains NEURA's own multimodal foundation model and will continue to be developed independently. The partnership adds an extra model option and includes joint research. Companies keep control over their process knowledge and decide whether to share data and capabilities.
### The Bigger Picture
NEURA contributes the Physical AI stack: multimodal foundation models, robotics, sensor technology, real-world training data from NEURA Gyms, and the platform for industrial deployment. NXAI brings decades of AI research and a fundamentally different approach. Together, they're pushing physical AI forward—from Europe for the world.
This partnership is one to watch. As robots become more capable, memory will be the key that unlocks their full potential.
