Munich-based Aampere raises $4.6 million to build a digital resale platform for used electric cars across Europe, tackling a fragmented market with smart pricing and logistics.
### A Platform for the Growing Used EV Market
Aampere, a Munich-based startup, just closed a $4.6 million funding round to expand its fully digital resale platform for used electric cars across Europe. The company is tackling a problem that's becoming more urgent by the day: as more people buy EVs, the market for selling them second-hand is still a mess.
The round was led by Estonian VC Trind Ventures, with Vend Marketplaces ASA—the Nordic family behind FINN.no, Blocket, and Bilbasen—joining as a minority investor. Consumer investor G-FUND also came on board, while existing backer GIMIC increased its stake. A handful of experienced business angels from the automotive industry pitched in too.
### Why This Matters for the EV Transition
"With fresh capital and strong new partners by our side, we're accelerating our expansion and further building our position in the European market," said Florian Reister, founder and CEO of Aampere.
Here's the thing: EV adoption is climbing fast across Europe, but the resale market for used electric cars is still fragmented, slow, and stuck in the past. Think manual processes, opaque pricing, and national silos that make cross-border sales a headache. That's the gap Aampere wants to fill.
"And it is precisely this market that determines the pace of the e-mobility transition," the company points out. "Not everyone can afford a new car—and without a fast, reliable used-car market, mass-market electric mobility won't take off."
### How Aampere's Platform Works
Founded in 2023 by Reister, Niko Schmidt (CGO), and Maximilian Rost (CPO), Aampere operates a fully digital, pan-European platform that feels like a breath of fresh air compared to traditional methods. Here's how it works:
- **Quick Offers:** Private and commercial sellers get a binding purchase offer within 48 hours through a dealer auction.
- **Smart Pricing:** A self-learning algorithm determines the best price based on real-time market data.
- **Digital Checks:** The platform runs a condition-and-history check digitally, so there's no guesswork.
- **Integrated Logistics:** Aampere handles everything from valuation and payment to vehicle pickup—right from the seller's home.
The process is simple: after a pan-European dealer auction establishes the highest bid, Aampere makes the seller a concrete offer. Once accepted, the company transfers the money even before pickup. Then the vehicle is collected from the seller's doorstep. No haggling, no waiting.
### Growth That Speaks Volumes
The company says it's already selling several thousand electric vehicles annually, with revenue quadrupling over the past year. Its team has grown to over 25 employees. That's impressive for a startup that's barely two years old.
"Flo, Maxi, and Niko have delivered exceptionally in a short time—with around 4x growth over the past year and a customer experience that keeps getting better for sellers and buyers alike," said Taavi Lepmets, Partner at Trind Ventures. "We're glad to keep backing Aampere with full conviction."
### What's Next for Aampere
With the fresh capital, the company plans to scale both sides of its platform. On the seller side, Aampere is opening up new acquisition channels and partnerships to bring more vehicles onto the marketplace. On the buyer side, it's expanding its dealer network and entering new European markets.
The goal? Build the missing infrastructure for the used EV market—so that used electric cars quickly and reliably find the right buyer anywhere in Europe. As Reister puts it: "Electromobility is on the rise across Europe, but the secondary market for used EVs is still fragmented and inefficient. Right now, what's needed is infrastructure for this secondary market. Aampere is building the platform for it."
