Metris Energy, a London-based AI platform for renewable energy asset management, raised $5 million in Seed funding to scale its operations and expand across Europe.
### The $5 Million Bet on Solar's Spreadsheet Problem
Picture this: you own 10,000 solar plants. You're managing them with spreadsheets. Sounds insane, right? That's exactly the problem Metris Energy just raised $5 million to solve.
The London-based startup closed a Seed round led by PT1 Ventures, Octopus Ventures, AENU, and Blackfinch Ventures, with Plug and Play and Love Ventures chipping in. That brings their total funding to $7.5 million, following a $2.5 million pre-Seed in January 2024.
### What Metris Actually Does
Metris isn't just another dashboard. It's an AI-native operating system for renewable energy owners and operators. The company takes data scattered across inverters, meters, SCADA systems, CRMs, spreadsheets, and finance tools and stitches it into one clean, real-time record.
On top of that, they've built Metria AI, an interface that handles complex tasks ops teams used to do manually. Think natural-language queries, automated workflows, and AI agents that can actually act on your portfolio.
As CEO Natasha Jones puts it: "The winners of the energy transition won't be the owners of the most kW of capacity, but those who can view, control and monetise them best."
### Why This Matters for the Energy Sector
Global energy transactions total $5 trillion every year. Yet most power producers still run on spreadsheets. As the grid decentralizes, new revenue streams are popping up—flexibility, curtailment management, community energy, corporate PPAs—but the data to access them is fragmented across dozens of disconnected systems.
Metris aims to be the intelligent system of record for energy: a living profile of every physical asset, reconciling raw data from asset systems, metering, SCADA, GIS, and energy markets into a single source of truth.
### Traction and Expansion Plans
The company reports 8x year-over-year revenue growth and manages over 10,000 solar plants and 500MW of capacity for some of the world's largest power producers.
With the new capital, Metris plans to:
- Expand agentic capabilities of Metria AI
- Extend platform reach into wind and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems
- Grow across Europe, with a focus on Germany where they've already onboarded several new customers
### The Investor Perspective
Fabian Koening, Partner at PT1 Ventures, said: "Natasha and the Metris Energy team are building the data infrastructure that makes energy assets visible in real-time, unlocking the opportunity for AI to transform the space."
### The Bottom Line
Metris Energy is tackling a massive inefficiency in renewable energy management. If they succeed, they could become the operating system for the entire energy transition. And with $5 million fresh in the bank, they're just getting started.
