Linkener, a Barcelona-based EnergyTech startup, raises €7.5 million to help businesses digitize and optimize energy management, aiming to cut costs by 20%.

Energy management for businesses often feels stuck in the past. You get a monthly bill, scratch your head, and wonder where all that money went. Linkener, a Barcelona-based startup, is on a mission to change that. They just raised €7.5 million (about $8.2 million) to help companies finally understand and control their energy costs. The round was led by Klima Energy Transition Fund, Alantra’s energy transition fund, with GoHub Ventures staying on as a shareholder. This fresh capital will fuel Linkener's expansion and tech development. ### What Linkener Does Founded in 2011, Linkener has built an Intelligent Energy Management System (SIGE) that uses proprietary remote metering technology. It lets businesses measure consumption with their own data, digitize and validate bills, analyze supply arrangements, and get alerts and recommendations to save money. They also have an engineering team that turns those savings opportunities into real projects—over 400 solar PV and battery storage projects delivered across Spain. Linkener serves more than 2,000 customers, from solo entrepreneurs to large corporations, managing 10,000 energy supply points and 1.7 TWh annually. That's a lot of energy—enough to power thousands of homes for a year. ### Why This Matters According to Linkener, the services sector has huge potential for savings. Just by monitoring and controlling consumption, businesses can cut energy costs by 20%. That's real money that could go back into growth. José Ignacio Ruiz, CEO of Linkener, puts it bluntly: "This funding round will allow us to accelerate the transformation of a highly fragmented sector, where energy management remains rooted in practices from 40 years ago. We want businesses to have reliable data and technology to understand how much they spend on energy, anticipate their costs and make better decisions." Iñigo Echaniz, Partner at Klima, adds: "Energy management for businesses and organisations remains a highly fragmented market with enormous potential for digitisation. Linkener combines proprietary technology, independent energy data and direct relationships with thousands of customers, creating a distinctive foundation on which to add further capabilities and solutions. Our investment aims to support the team in this next stage of growth, both organically and through acquisitions, with the goal of building a leading technology platform for energy management." ### The Road Ahead With the new funds, Linkener plans to beef up its AI and data analytics to automate bill processing, spot anomalies, and find more savings. They're also eyeing acquisitions to add complementary products and companies, strengthening their tech and market reach. Ruiz sums up their goal: to bring "transparency and results to the thousands of businesses and organisations that do not want to manage their energy solely through a monthly bill that is biased, incomplete and fails to provide the full picture." In a world where energy costs are unpredictable, Linkener's approach could be a game-changer. For now, they're focused on Spain, but with this funding, who knows? Maybe they'll bring their smart energy management to the US next.
