Portuguese EdTech Intuitivo raises $1.5M to ease teachers' workload and expand into Brazil. The platform saves teachers hours by automating test creation and grading.

Intuitivo, a Portuguese EdTech startup that helps lighten teachers’ administrative load, has raised €1.35 million in Seed funding. That's about $1.5 million at current exchange rates. The round was led by Caixa Capital and the Impact Innovation Fund, managed by 3xP Global under the Venture Capital Programme of the Capitalisation and Resilience Fund (FdCR), administered by Banco Português de Fomento, Portugal’s development bank. Global accelerator Techstars, COREangels Lisboa and COREangels Porto also took part, alongside Angels Way, the first Portuguese fund structured as a community, pooling together 436 small investors. “Intuitivo was born from a teacherʼs request and continues to be developed together with teachers. Our goal is simple: to give time back to those who teach,” said João Guimarães, co-founder and CEO of Intuitivo. ### What Intuitivo Does Founded in 2021 by Guimarães, Duarte Oliveira and Diogo Silva, Intuitivo is a digital assessment platform designed to enable educators to create, schedule and grade tests and deliver feedback to students. It covers everything from primary school to higher education. Teachers on the platform can build assessments from scratch, draw from a shared exercise library, or use AI to convert old PDF tests into fully interactive, auto-graded digital versions. Students, on the other hand, access their tests through a single link, no need for an account or software installation. The platform also gives teachers real-time monitoring during live assessments, built-in anti-cheating mechanisms, and automatic performance statistics broken down by student, class and exercise. Intuitivo is solving a well-documented problem: OECD’s TALIS 2024 survey reveals that actual teaching accounts for just 43% of a teacher’s working time, with Portugal ranking first among the 44 countries studied in time spent on assessment and grading. > “Intuitivo was born from a teacherʼs request and continues to be developed together with teachers. The startup counts 75,000 registered teachers among its users and has secured more than 200 contracts with municipalities, school clusters and private schools, covering more than 500 schools across Portugal. While it frees up teachers from administrative tasks, school leadership also benefits from its centralised dashboard to track results and teacher adoption across an entire institution. ### The Road Ahead The fresh funding will be used to deepen product development and nearly double its headcount from 11 to 20 employees before the end of this year. The startup also plans to use the funding to expand beyond Portugal and break into Brazil, a market estimated at 2.2 million teachers, roughly twelve times the size of its home market. “Brazil is the natural step: it speaks our language, has more than 2 million teachers, teachers there adopt digital tools easily, and some already use Intuitivo. We want to take what we have built in Portugal there, on a much bigger scale,” added Guimarães. For those following EU Inc news and the European startup incorporation landscape, Intuitivo's raise is a sign that EdTech—and impact-driven ventures—can attract serious capital. It also highlights how startups can leverage local success to springboard into larger markets, a strategy that's becoming more common as European founders look beyond the continent.
