Grundium Acquires Visiopharm for AI Precision Pathology

### A Big Move in Digital Pathology Finland's Grundium, a Tampere-based startup that builds digital pathology imaging tech, just bought Denmark's Visiopharm. The deal is backed by EW Healthcare Partners, a US private equity firm. And honestly, this combination makes a ton of sense. Grundium focuses on compact, high-quality scanners. Visiopharm brings AI-driven software for precision pathology. Together, they're creating an end-to-end platform for labs, biopharma companies, and researchers. ### Why This Matters Digital pathology is changing how we diagnose diseases, especially cancer. Instead of waiting days for slides to be shipped and reviewed, labs can scan them instantly and share them with experts anywhere. "Precision medicine begins with precision pathology," said Mika Kuisma, CEO of Grundium. "By combining Grundium's imaging technologies with Visiopharm's advanced AI applications, we are creating a stronger foundation for physicians and laboratories to adopt high-value workflows and scale them over time."  ### The Companies Behind the Deal Grundium was founded in 2015 by former Nokia engineers Kimmo Alanen, Mika Kuisma, and Janne Haavisto. They make the Ocus series of microscope scanners. These devices are compact and affordable, so even small labs can get high-quality digital pathology. Visiopharm, founded in 2002 by Michael Grunkin and Johan Doré Hansen, focuses on AI-powered image analysis. Their software helps scientists and pathologists get accurate data from tissue samples. In diagnostics, they have nine algorithms cleared under IVDR for EU customers. They serve over 750 customers in more than 40 countries.  ### What the Combined Platform Offers The new platform connects biomarker analysis, imaging, and quality management. That means labs can do more with less hassle.
