Germany's Flip raises $24M to bring AI to frontline workers. The Stuttgart startup targets the 80% of employees who don't sit at a desk with digital identity, AI agents, and custom apps.

When was the last time you thought about the software powering the person who stocks your local grocery store or assembles your car? Probably never, right? That's exactly the problem Flip is trying to solve. The Stuttgart-based employee experience platform just closed a $24 million round (roughly €22 million) to build AI tools for the 80% of workers who don't sit at a desk. This isn't pocket change. The funding comes from existing backers Notion Capital and HV Capital, who clearly see something special here. They're doubling down on their investment, with L-Bank, the development bank of Baden-Württemberg, joining as a fresh face at the table. This latest injection follows a $27 million Series A extension in 2025 and a $29 million raise back in 2022. That's serious momentum. ### The Deskless Worker Problem Here's the thing: AI has transformed office work. Your email drafts itself, your calendar schedules meetings, and your spreadsheets basically do the math for you. But walk onto a factory floor or into a hospital ward, and it's a completely different story. Most frontline workers still rely on paper checklists, walkie-talkies, and tribal knowledge. "AI has long been part of everyday life in the office but, on the assembly line, in stores, or in care settings, it has barely arrived," says Benedikt Brand, co-founder and CEO of Flip. "This isn't due to a lack of interest, but because many frontline organisations lack the digital identity and infrastructure required for AI to make a difference." That's the gap Flip closes. They've built a single platform that combines communication, workflows, digital identity, and AI. No more juggling five different apps just to tell a warehouse worker their shift changed. ### A Sector Heating Up Flip isn't alone in this space. European investors are pouring money into frontline software like it's going out of style. In 2026 alone, we've seen massive rounds across the continent: - $218 million for Paris-based Skello - $19.7 million for Madrid-based Orbio - $12 million for Karlsruhe-based Nesto - $5.4 million for Berlin's Elephant Company - $4.4 million for Berlin-based Bounti - $1.7 million for Ireland's HR Duo Combined, that's over $260 million in disclosed funding. When you add Flip's round to the mix, you're looking at nearly $285 million flowing into this niche in just a few months. That's not a trend, that's a movement. "We've backed Flip since 2022, and over that time we've watched the team build a leading position in the enterprise market, both within Europe and the US," notes Jos White, General Partner at Notion Capital. "Flip is playing a defining role in shaping the category of AI for frontline teams." ### Real Results, Real Adoption Founded in 2018, Flip isn't some untested startup chasing hype. They've got serious enterprise clients including Bosch, REWE Group, SIXT, TEDi, FORVIA HELLA, Greif, and Europart. These aren't small shops, these are global operations with thousands of employees. The numbers speak for themselves. In one pilot rollout with Greif, the company hit 85% adoption and sustained 74% weekly active users. That's staggering for enterprise software, where most tools struggle to crack 30% engagement. Building on that success, they've expanded to over 100 sites across 15 countries. ### What's Next for Flip The new funding will fuel two major initiatives. First, there's Flip Fusion, their AI app builder that generates custom frontline apps in real time. Instead of waiting months for IT to tender, purchase, and customize standard software, Fusion creates tailored solutions for a specific store, team, or process almost instantly. Second is Frontline Identity, launched in June. This removes the requirement for a corporate email address, which has historically been a massive barrier for deskless workers trying to access employer systems. Think about it, how many frontline employees have a company email? Almost none. This changes that. "We want to see a world where AI leaves no employee behind," says Brand. "AI will only unlock its greatest economic value once it reaches every employee, not just those at a desk." That's a vision worth betting on. If Flip can deliver on its promise, the factory floor might finally catch up to the corner office.
