Until now, repairing anything up there was nearly impossible unless the satellite was specifically designed for it. Agencies relied on super complex mechanisms that had too many points of failure.
ArcSpace's solution is elegantly simple. They've created a compact tool that uses high-energy electron beam technology. Think of it like a space welder and cutter all in one. It can be deployed right on a spacecraft and works safely in the vacuum of deep space, with no hazardous waste.

The real magic is in the capability. This tool can capture and fix satellites that were originally seen as disposable. That transforms what was once a liability—a dead satellite—back into a working asset.
Guillaume Mohara, CEO and co-founder of ArcSpace, explained the shift in thinking. “The space industry has run on a one-time-use model. A failure meant losing infrastructure worth hundreds of millions. We believe manufacturing, repairing, and modifying equipment directly in orbit is the only path to a sustainable space economy.”
Their technology isn't just a concept. It's already passed tough space-environment tests, like high-vacuum and intense mechanical vibrations. The new funding will accelerate their in-space validation, aiming for a world-first demonstration in 2027: over 100 seconds of fully autonomous welding on a spacecraft.
### What's Next for ArcSpace?
The interest is already there. More than a dozen commercial companies are intrigued, and they've got partnerships with heavyweights like the French space agency (CNES), the European Space Agency (ESA), and the European Defence Fund.
So what's the plan for the cash? It's all about growth:

- Qualifying their flight hardware
- Preparing for that first demo mission in 2027
- Bringing a product to market by 2028
Their roadmap starts with in-orbit servicing for life extension and de-orbiting missions by 2028. Then, they'll scale the same tech to build larger structures in orbit and even on the moon. It's not just about fixing what's broken; it's about building what's next, directly in the final frontier.
