Exein, a Rome-based Physical AI cybersecurity firm, raises €234M ($270M) at a €1.4B valuation, becoming Europe's most valuable cybersecurity startup. The funds will fuel US and APAC expansion and protect intelligent machines from machine-speed attacks.

### Rome's Exein Joins the Unicorn Club with a Massive $270M Raise Exein, a cybersecurity company based in Rome, just announced a whopping €234 million ($270 million) funding round. That values the company at €1.4 billion ($1.7 billion), making it Europe's most valuable cybersecurity startup. Not bad for a company that started in 2018. The funding will fuel Exein's expansion into the US and Asia-Pacific, and double down on what they call "Physical AI security." We're talking about protecting intelligent machines—robots, drones, autonomous vehicles—that use AI to perceive, decide, and act in the real world. ### Why Physical AI Security Matters Now Here's the thing: AI is moving out of the cloud and into the physical world. And with that shift comes a whole new set of risks. According to Exein, they face about 5,000 new attacks every week. That's not a typo. Gianni Cuozzo, founder and CEO, puts it bluntly: "Frontier models are pushing the patch window to zero. Attacks now happen at machine speed, so defense has to as well." In other words, if a hacker can compromise a robot or a car in milliseconds, you need security that reacts just as fast. Exein's technology is already embedded in over two billion connected devices across industries like industrial automation, automotive, energy, healthcare, semiconductors, aerospace, and robotics. They're not just talking about the future—they're securing it right now. ### The Money Behind the Mission The round was led by Headline, with participation from heavy hitters like Sofina, Goldman Sachs, the European Investment Bank Group, KfW Capital, and T.Capital. Existing investors also joined in, including Balderton, HV, Intrepid Growth Partners, and several others. On top of that, Exein upsized its existing revolving credit facility led by J.P. Morgan, with KfW joining as an additional lender. Clearly, confidence in Exein is sky-high. Clarey Zhu, Partner at Headline, explains why: "As AI moves into robots, vehicles, and critical infrastructure, securing the physical world will become one of the defining cybersecurity challenges of the next decade. Exein's deep expertise in embedded systems and unique machine data give it a powerful advantage." ### From Series B to Unicorn in Two Years Exein's journey has been nothing short of meteoric. In 2024, they raised a €15 million Series B. In 2025, they pulled in €170 million across two announcements. And now, in 2026, they've added another €234 million. That's a thirty-fold increase in valuation in just two years. Their H1 2026 ARR was up 4x year-on-year, and about 50% of their revenue comes from Asia-Pacific. They've also launched Photon, a preemptive runtime security architecture that operates at the kernel level to block malicious execution before it happens. To put this round in perspective, other notable cybersecurity rounds in 2026 include: - Cloudsmith (Belfast): €61.5 million for AI-driven software supply chain security - Qevlar AI (Paris): €25.8 million for agentic security operations - NeuralTrust (Barcelona): €17.2 million for securing enterprise AI agents - Escape: €15.4 million for AI-powered offensive security - Test of Things (Finland): €1.2 million for IoT cybersecurity testing Combined, these rounds totaled about €161.4 million. Exein's single round dwarfs them all, bringing the total to nearly €395.4 million. ### What's Next for Exein? With this fresh capital, Exein plans to accelerate its US and APAC expansion. They're already a global business with operations spanning Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the United States. And with Physical AI security becoming increasingly critical, Exein is positioning itself as the go-to defense for the machine-driven world. As Cuozzo says, "We're building machine-time security for machine-time attacks." It's a bold claim, but with $270 million in the bank and a unicorn valuation, they might just pull it off. For startups eyeing the EU Inc proposal and European incorporation, Exein's story is a testament to what's possible when you combine deep tech with global ambition. Keep an eye on this space—Physical AI security is about to get a lot more attention.
