Exein, a Physical AI cybersecurity company, raises $270M at a $1.7B valuation, becoming Europe's most valuable cybersecurity startup. The funds will fuel US and APAC expansion and protect intelligent machines from machine-speed attacks.
Rome-based Exein just pulled off something big. The Physical AI cybersecurity company raised $270 million at a $1.7 billion valuation, making it Europe's most valuable cybersecurity startup. But here's the thing—this isn't just about the money. It's about what it means for the future of connected devices.
### What's Fueling the Fire?
Exein protects intelligent machines that use AI to perceive, decide, and act in the physical world. We're talking robots, drones, autonomous vehicles—anything that's smart and connected. And with attacks happening at machine speed, traditional security just can't keep up.
As CEO Gianni Cuozzo puts it: "Frontier models are pushing the patch window to zero. Attacks now happen at machine speed, so defense has to as well." That's why Exein is building what they call "machine-time security for machine-time attacks."
### The Money Trail
The round was led by Headline, with heavy hitters like Sofina, Goldman Sachs, and the European Investment Bank Group joining in. Previous investors like Balderton and Lakestar also chipped in. Plus, J.P. Morgan upsized their revolving credit facility—so Exein's got plenty of dry powder.
This isn't Exein's first rodeo. They raised $16 million in a Series B back in 2024 and another $184 million across two announcements in 2025. Now, with this latest round, they're sitting pretty.
### Why It Matters
Exein's tech is already embedded in over two billion connected devices across industrial automation, automotive, energy, healthcare, and more. About half their revenue comes from Asia-Pacific, and they're eyeing US expansion.
Their valuation has jumped 30x in two years, and ARR is up 4x year-over-year. That kind of growth gets noticed.
Clarey Zhu, Partner at Headline, sums it up: "As AI moves into robots, vehicles, and critical infrastructure, securing the physical world will become one of the defining cybersecurity challenges of the next decade."
### The Bigger Picture
Exein's raise dwarfs other 2026 cybersecurity rounds in Europe. Cloudsmith pulled in $71 million, Qevlar AI got $30 million, NeuralTrust raised $20 million, and Escape secured $18 million. Combined, those rounds totaled about $186 million. Exein's single round nearly doubles that.
So what's next? Exein plans to use the funds to accelerate US and APAC expansion and double down on Physical AI security. If they can keep up this momentum, they might just become a household name in cybersecurity.
One thing's for sure: the physical world is getting smarter, and Exein wants to keep it safe.
