The Exploration Company raises $450M Series C to advance reusable Nyx capsule and Storm rocket engine, marking Europe's largest space funding round ever.

The Exploration Company just raised a massive $450 million Series C. That's the largest round ever for a European space company. And it's not just about the money – it's about what this signals for Europe's space ambitions. ### The Record-Breaking Round The Exploration Company (TEC), based in Europe, announced a €387 million ($450 million) Series C financing. The round was co-led by Bessemer Venture Partners, Atomico, and the Scaleup Europe Fund (managed by EQT). Existing backers like Balderton, Plural, Cherry, and Red River West also joined in. This isn't just a funding announcement. It's a statement. Europe is serious about building its own reusable space transportation. ### What the Money Will Do The funding will push forward two major projects: - **Nyx**: a reusable capsule designed to dock with the International Space Station and return to Earth. - **Storm**: a high-thrust reusable rocket engine that Europe needs for future heavy-lift launchers. "This financing will allow us to execute with urgency," said HΓ©lΓ¨ne Huby, founder and CEO of TEC. "To bring Nyx to the International Space Station and safely back to Earth, while accelerating Storm." Huby also emphasized the broader mission: "We are scaling from Europe with talent, customers and partners from around the world because the next generation of space transportation must be built to serve more nations, industries and people." ### A Wave of European Space Investment TEC's round is part of a larger trend. In 2026 alone, several European space startups have raised significant capital: - PLD Space (Spain) extended its Series C to €288 million ($335 million) for commercial launch operations. - ATMOS Space Cargo (Germany) raised €25.7 million ($30 million) Series A for reusable orbital transport. - HyImpulse Technologies (Germany) secured over €50 million ($58 million) Series A extension for hybrid propulsion. - Arkadia Space (Spain) raised €14.5 million ($17 million) for satellite propulsion systems. Together, these four deals plus TEC's round account for more than €750 million ($870 million) in 2026. That's a lot of capital flowing into Europe's space infrastructure. ### Political Praise The round drew comments from top European leaders. French President Emmanuel Macron said: "Just before the International Space Summit in Paris, The Exploration Company has secured the largest Series C raised by a European space company. TEC's transformational ambitions and excellence in execution, driven by the French German engine, are an inspiration." European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen added: "This is a strong moment for Europe's space industry. It shows what Europe can achieve when talent, ambition and innovation are matched with capital. And its success sends an important message about women's leadership in high technology." ### Why This Matters Space infrastructure is critical. It underpins communications, scientific research, security, and everyday services on Earth. But the ability to reach, supply, and return from orbit is still rare and fragile. Demand for space-station logistics, in-orbit services, and resilient infrastructure is accelerating. TEC's funding will help Europe become a bigger player in this space – literally. As Huby put it: "Our mission is to contribute to build a more collaborative and peaceful future in space." With this round, TEC is not just building rockets. It's building Europe's place in the next era of space exploration.
