EstateMin, an Irish LegalTech startup, raises €1M to bring its AI-powered estate management platform to US law firms, saving them hours of paperwork.
EstateMin, an Irish-founded LegalTech startup, just raised €1 million (about $1.08 million) in pre-Seed funding. They're on a mission to help trust and estate law firms manage estate values with an AI-powered platform that saves lawyers hours of tedious work. The round was backed by NDRC, First Port Syndicate, and Enterprise Ireland (through its High Potential Start-Up programme), plus angels like Mike Hanrahan, Moira McKenna, and Conor Stanley.
### The Problem: Retyping Information Is a Waste of Time
Isabella Hughes, co-founder and CEO, knows the pain firsthand. She's a law graduate and former international boxer who worked as a legal executive. Her days were filled with manually retyping client information into legal documents. "You don't necessarily question it when it's simply part of your job," Hughes says. "Then somebody points out that you're taking information a client has already provided and typing it all over again, and suddenly you realise how much time is being lost."
That someone was OisÃn Dolphin, a machine learning expert with over eight years of experience. He'd just gone through probate after his father's death and saw the same inefficiency. The two met at an NDRC founder weekend at Dogpatch Labs in 2024. Soon after, John Noonan, who spent over four years at legal tech company Clio, joined as the third co-founder.
### What EstateMin Does
EstateMin's platform digitizes client intake, organizes estate information, extracts data from documents, and helps prepare forms. Its AI Case Reviewer scans files to flag missing fields or inconsistencies before submission. It integrates with existing case management systems like Clio and can be up and running in about two minutes.
And it's already making waves: the platform is helping firms manage more than $770 million in estate values across 777 matters. Firms report saving five to seven hours per estate planning matter and five to ten hours per estate administration. EstateMin is active in all 50 US states and growing 20% month-over-month.
> "The real benefit for our clients is how much easier EstateMin makes it to get us information. Executors and family members can complete their intake right from the portal, on their own time, instead of juggling calls and paperwork during an already difficult process." – James Greenwood of Greenwood Law in Illinois
### The Pivot: From Ireland to the US
The journey wasn't straightforward. After initially building for Irish law firms, adoption was slower than expected. With limited funds, Hughes and team had to choose between the UK and the US. "The response we'd had in New York was completely different, so we decided to go for it," she says. Now headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, EstateMin is going all-in on the US market.
The pre-Seed funding will fuel customer acquisition in the US, scale go-to-market operations, and expand the engineering and product teams. They've already hired two software engineers and added US business development capacity.
### What This Means for European Startups
EstateMin's story is a classic example of European startups looking to the US for growth. With the EU Inc proposal on the horizon—aimed at simplifying cross-border incorporation and scaling—more founders might find it easier to expand internationally. But for now, EstateMin is proof that solving a real, painful problem can attract funding and traction, even in a crowded legal tech space.
For professionals following EU Inc news and European startup incorporation, EstateMin's US expansion highlights the importance of choosing the right market early on. Sometimes, the bigger risk pays off.
