Emerald, a London-based preventive healthcare platform, just raised an additional $1.85 million. That brings its total funding to $3.7 million. Not bad for a company founded in 2024. ### The Funding Breakdown So where's the money coming from? Half of it—about $925,000—is a grant from Innovate UK. It's actually Emerald's second award from the organization, which says something about how they view the company's potential. The other half is venture capital, raised after the grant was secured. All existing investors chipped in, and new backers like Sequel and Highgoal joined the party. The company's valuation also ticked up from its previous round. ### Why Preventive Healthcare Matters Alexander Badalyan, co-founder and CEO, puts it simply: "There's huge demand for access to simple healthcare tools that move beyond just testing. People want to understand what those results mean and the steps they can take to boost their long-term health—informed by guidance from trusted medical experts." He's got a point. Traditional health checks are like snapshots. They tell you what's happening right now, but they don't show the full picture. Emerald's approach is more like a movie—it connects your past results, lifestyle, and wearable data to reveal patterns and changes over time. That means you can spot potential issues before they become critical. ### How Emerald Stands Out Here's the thing: Emerald isn't just another health app. It's clinician-founded and Care Quality Commission registered, offering regulated activities like diagnostic and screening procedures. The platform is also authorized as a UKCA Class I medical device with the MHRA. Every member gets paired with a GP who can diagnose, prescribe, and make formal referrals into both private and NHS care when needed. And the results speak for themselves. Since the beginning of 2026, Emerald has grown its member base tenfold and processed over 100,000 laboratory tests. The repeat-screening data shows some impressive trends: - Cholesterol levels improved for two out of three users - Blood sugar levels dropped by a third - Reduced inflammation among members dropped by almost half ### Partnerships and Future Plans Emerald has been busy on the partnership front, too. Over the last year, it's teamed up with Pluxee, Epassi, Yonder, and other businesses across employee benefits, FinTech, and fitness sectors. The goal? To make it easier for employers to include Emerald's services as part of their existing benefits offerings. As Badalyan explains, "A preventative approach to healthcare significantly improves long-term health outcomes by providing a more holistic view of a patient's health, highlighting potential issues before they become critical, and empowering people to enter the right pathway earlier." He also notes that while the government's health agenda is a cornerstone of current policy, the NHS can't deliver this shift alone. "Government efforts must be matched with innovative solutions that are able to have widespread reach," he says. "Emerald has unlocked access to millions of potential users through its partnerships—with ambitions to become the UK's go-to platform for long-term health management." With this fresh injection of cash, Emerald plans to build on the demand it's already seeing, deepen those partnerships, and expand care. If the company's growth so far is any indication, this is just the beginning. Chris Sawyer, Innovation Lead for Digital Health at Innovate UK, adds: "Connecting earlier health insights with appropriate care is an important opportunity for healthcare innovation in the UK. Through this award, we are supporting Emerald's development of AI-enabled technology designed to help clinicians deliver more personalized care." So what's next for Emerald? If the past year is any guide, expect more partnerships, more members, and more evidence that preventive healthcare isn't just a trend—it's the future.
