Danish AI startup Velatir just raised $5.3M to expand across Europe. Here's how their "OS for AI" platform is tackling compliance and data sovereignty.

Velatir, an Odense-based AI infrastructure startup, just announced a fresh $5.3 million funding round. The company plans to use this capital to "triple down" on European expansion and "compete for the best talent" across the region. That's a bold statement, but they're backing it up with serious momentum. The round closed in just two weeks, which tells you something about investor confidence. It was co-led by new investor Spintop Ventures and existing backer Ugly Duckling Ventures. Other participants included Norrsken Evolve, plus new angels Jan Oberhauser (founder of n8n) and Thomas Visti (Universal Robots/MiR). The Danish Export and Investment Fund (EIFO) also chipped in with a match loan. ### What's Driving the Hype? Velatir's pitch is simple but powerful: they want to be the default integration layer for compliant AI adoption in Europe. Founded in 2025 by Michael Sørensen (CEO), Elias Sørensen (CTO), Christian Møller (COO), and Andreas Paulli (CPO), the platform helps companies automate workflows with AI while keeping full control, traceability, and regulatory compliance—especially under the EU AI Act. The problem they're solving is real. As AI gets smarter, it gets harder to control. Data leakage risks are climbing, and agentic products will only accelerate that trend. Companies need guardrails to maximize AI's benefits without blowing up their compliance posture. ### The "OS for AI" Approach Velatir isn't building just another tool. They describe their platform as the future OS for AI. It plugs in horizontally across everything AI touches—endpoints, vendors, agents, employees, and the infrastructure underneath. Instead of being another siloed solution, it acts as the layer through which all AI traffic flows. Here's what the platform actually does: - Ties together security, policy enforcement, usage tracking, and discovery across employees and AI agents - Provides real-time visibility into AI usage across devices, browsers, and people/agents - Monitors data flow and tracks the cost and maturity of each AI use case - Lets organizations enforce control guardrails from one central spot That's a compelling value prop for any company trying to adopt AI without losing sleep over compliance. ### Sales Are Already Exploding Since raising their pre-Seed round six months ago and officially launching, Velatir says sales numbers have exploded. That's a strong signal they're solving a real pain point, not just building something theoretically interesting. ### The Sovereign Cloud Bet One of the most interesting angles here is their infrastructure choice. Velatir built the entire platform on European-owned and hosted infrastructure, deliberately skipping American hyperscalers like AWS or Azure. "Sovereign cloud" is a common phrase, and it often means American platforms with a European label," said Møller. "We built Velatir on European-owned and hosted infrastructure from the very beginning. It is the harder path, but the only viable one for us. We're building a category leader, and we don't take shortcuts." That's a meaningful differentiator in a market where data sovereignty is becoming a board-level concern. For European companies worried about where their data lives, this could be the deciding factor. ### Why This Matters for the Market Europe has been hungry for homegrown infrastructure champions. Velatir is positioning itself to fill that gap, and with this new funding, they're taking a serious step toward becoming the fastest-growing European AI company. The two-week close suggests investors see something special here. And with the EU AI Act looming, the timing couldn't be better for a platform that makes compliance easier rather than harder.
