Swedish startups raised $1.4B in 2026 so far. From a $398M Series C to stealth-mode AI plays, here are the 10 biggest funding rounds and what they mean for Europe's tech scene.

It's been a wild year for Swedish startups. With Stockholm-based Lovable dropping a massive $398 million Series C this week, it feels like every other day there's another huge funding announcement coming out of the Nordics. So we decided to dig into the numbers and see which companies are actually pulling in the big bucks. Sweden has quietly become one of Europe's most reliable startup engines. While everyone talks about Silicon Valley and London, Stockholm and its neighboring cities keep producing world-class companies across HealthTech, AI, FinTech, LegalTech, and even consumer brands. The sheer variety is impressive β€” you've got pet insurance, legal AI, semiconductor tech, and everything in between. For this ranking, we went through all the funding coverage published between January 1 and August 14, 2026, and ranked Swedish startups and scale-ups by the size of their announced or completed rounds during that window. To keep things fair, we excluded VC fund closes, acquisitions, grants, loans, and credit facilities. And if a company announced an extension to an earlier round, we only counted the new capital raised in 2026. All together, these ten rounds add up to roughly $1.4 billion. Here's the kicker: the two biggest deals β€” Neko Health and Lovable β€” account for about 79% of that total. And eight out of the ten companies are headquartered in Stockholm. Talk about a startup hub. ### 10. Lightbringer – $10 Million Series A MalmΓΆ-based LegalTech startup Lightbringer raised $10 million in June to fuel its US expansion and keep building out its product. The round was co-led by 6 Degrees Capital and Newion. If you've been following them, you might remember their $4.9 million round back in 2024 β€” this is a clear sign of momentum. ### 9. Bits – $13.9 Million Series A Stockholm-based FinTech infrastructure startup Bits secured $13.9 million to automate more of the financial crime and compliance workflow. They're expanding both their product capabilities and their European data coverage. Alstin Capital led the round, with backing from Cherry Ventures, Unusual Ventures, and Alliance Ventures. They previously raised $4.6 million in 2023, so this is a solid step up. ### 8. Pit – $15.8 Million Pit came out of stealth in May with $15.8 million led by Andreessen Horowitz. Founded by former leaders from Voi, Klarna, and iZettle, they're building AI-native software for enterprise operations. Their pitch? An "AI product team as a service" model. It's an interesting take on how companies will build software in the future. ### 7. AlixLabs – $17.4 Million Series A Lund-based semiconductor startup AlixLabs closed its $17.4 million Series A in Q1 2026. The money is going toward speeding up product development, expanding technical capabilities, and strengthening relationships with chip manufacturers. Fun fact: most of the round ($16.4 million) was already subscribed back in November 2025 before the final close this year. ### 6. Quartr – $18.1 Million Stockholm-based financial data company Quartr closed an $18.1 million round in August to accelerate product development and expand its coverage of public-company data globally. Existing investor Altos Ventures led the funding, with SEB joining as a new backer. They've been steadily growing β€” $6.3 million from Altos in 2024 and $8.1 million back in 2022. ### 5. Legora – $48.7 Million Series D Extension Legal AI company Legora announced $48.7 million in additional funding in April, extending its Series D to a total of $595 million and valuing the Stockholm-based company at $5.5 billion post-money. New investors included Atlassian and NVentures, NVIDIA's venture capital arm. For this ranking, we only counted the new capital announced in 2026. They previously raised an $81.2 million Series B in 2025. ### 4. Lassie – $73.3 Million Series C Stockholm-based pet InsurTech Lassie raised $73.3 million in February to expand further across Europe and boost its use of AI. Balderton Capital, Felix Capital, Inventure, Passion Capital, and Stena Sessan all participated. Pet insurance might sound niche, but Lassie is proving there's serious money in keeping our furry friends covered. ### The Big Picture What's driving all this investment? A few things stand out: - **Proven talent**: Swedish founders have a track record of building global companies (think Spotify, Klarna, iZettle) - **Sector diversity**: From legal AI to pet insurance, the range is impressive - **International appeal**: US investors like Andreessen Horowitz and Altos Ventures keep coming back The numbers tell a clear story: Sweden isn't just a blip on the European startup map β€” it's a genuine powerhouse. Whether you're an investor looking for opportunities or a founder seeking inspiration, these deals show what's possible when you combine great ideas with a supportive ecosystem. As for what's next? If the first half of 2026 is anything to go by, we should expect even bigger things from the Nordics in the months ahead.
