Swedish startups raised over $1.4 billion in 2026's first half. We ranked the ten biggest rounds, from LegalTech to AI. Two companies took 79% of the total.
Sweden keeps punching above its weight in the European startup scene. This week alone, Stockholm-based Lovable announced a massive β¬343 million Series C β roughly $372 million β and that got us thinking. What else has been happening in the Swedish funding landscape this year?
Turns out, quite a lot. Between January 1 and August 14, 2026, Swedish startups and scale-ups announced some of the biggest rounds in Europe. We went through all the funding coverage we published during that window and ranked the ten largest rounds by size.
To keep things fair, we excluded VC fund closes, acquisitions, grants, loans, and credit facilities. And when a company announced an extension to an earlier round, we only counted the new capital raised in 2026.
### The Big Picture: $1.4 Billion Flowing In
All ten rounds combined represent roughly β¬1.21 billion β about $1.4 billion. But here's the thing: the two biggest deals, Neko Health and Lovable, account for about 79% of that total. That's a heavy concentration of capital at the top.
Eight of the ten companies are headquartered in Stockholm, which reinforces the city's position as the Nordic region's startup powerhouse. From HealthTech and AI to FinTech, LegalTech, and consumer brands, the breadth of sectors is impressive.
Let's count down from number 10.
### 10. Lightbringer β $9.3 Million Series A
MalmΓΆ-based LegalTech startup Lightbringer raised β¬8.6 million (about $9.3 million) in June. The money is earmarked for US expansion and further product development. The round was co-led by 6 Degrees Capital and Newion. We previously covered Lightbringer's β¬4.2 million round back in 2024.
### 9. Bits β $13 Million Series A
Stockholm-based FinTech infrastructure startup Bits secured β¬12 million (roughly $13 million) to boost automation across financial crime and compliance workflows. The company plans to expand its product capabilities and add more European data coverage. Alstin Capital led the round, with participation from Cherry Ventures, Unusual Ventures, and Alliance Ventures. We reported on Bits' β¬4 million round in 2023.
### 8. Pit β $14.7 Million
Stockholm-based Pit came out of stealth in May with β¬13.6 million (about $14.7 million) led by Andreessen Horowitz. Founded by former leaders from Voi, Klarna, and iZettle, Pit is building customized AI-native software for enterprise operations. They describe their model as an "AI product team as a service."
### 7. AlixLabs β $16.3 Million Series A
Lund-based semiconductor startup AlixLabs closed its β¬15 million (about $16.3 million) Series A in Q1 2026. The funding will accelerate product development, expand technical capabilities, and strengthen relationships with semiconductor manufacturers. Most of the round β β¬14.1 million β was already subscribed by November 2025 before the final close.
### 6. Quartr β $16.9 Million
Stockholm-based financial data company Quartr closed a β¬15.6 million (roughly $16.9 million) round in August. The funds will speed up product development and expand its coverage of public-company data worldwide. Existing investor Altos Ventures led the round, with SEB joining as a new investor. We previously covered Quartr's β¬5.4 million investment from Altos Ventures in 2024 and a β¬7 million raise in 2022.
### 5. Legora β $45.6 Million Series D Extension
Legal AI company Legora announced β¬42 million (about $45.6 million) in additional funding in April. That extended its Series D to a total of β¬513 million and valued the Stockholm-based company at β¬4.7 billion post-money. New investors included Atlassian and NVentures, NVIDIA's venture capital arm. For this ranking, we only counted the β¬42 million of new capital announced in 2026. We previously reported on Legora's β¬70 million Series B in 2025.
### 4. Lassie β $68.5 Million Series C
Stockholm-based pet InsurTech Lassie raised β¬63.2 million (about $68.5 million) in February. The company plans to expand further across Europe and increase its use of AI. Balderton Capital, Felix Capital, Inventure, Passion Capital, and Stena Sessan all participated. We had previously covered Lassie's earlier rounds.
### The Takeaway
Sweden's startup ecosystem is clearly thriving. The concentration of capital in a few mega-rounds shows that investors are willing to bet big on proven winners. But the diversity of sectors β from pet insurance to semiconductors β suggests a healthy, multi-faceted innovation scene.
For US-based professionals watching the European market, these numbers are worth noting. The Swedish model of building global companies from a relatively small home market continues to deliver impressive results.
Which of these companies will become the next European unicorn? Given the current trajectory, several already are. And with Lovable's recent mega-round, the momentum shows no signs of slowing down.
