Kuro Technology, a Berlin-based ConTech startup, raises $11M to bring AI to general contractors, saving 90 hours per bid. Here's how they're reshaping construction back offices.

### The Construction Industry's Hidden Inefficiency General contractors are the linchpin of every construction project, yet their teams spend nearly half their time drowning in documents—drawings, specs, bids—just trying to make sense of it all. That's a massive drain on productivity and a recipe for costly mistakes. Kuro Technology, a Berlin-based ConTech startup, is on a mission to change that. And investors just bet big on their vision. ### A Fresh $11 Million Boost Kuro recently closed a €10 million funding round (that's about $11 million) led by UVC Partners, a Munich and Berlin VC firm managing over $880 million in assets. Foundamental, Realyze Ventures, and helloworld also joined in. "We've known Lea and Jonas for years, long before Kuro existed," says Dr. Ingo Potthof, Managing Partner at UVC Partners. "They bring deep startup and industry expertise—exactly what construction needs." ### What Kuro Actually Does Founded in November 2024 by Lea Scherer and Jonas Minkler—both veterans of construction-tech firms alcemy and Capmo—Kuro has already grown to 16 employees. Their platform ingests project documentation and links it into a single data model. On top of that, it builds a custom rulebook for each contractor, covering building components, review criteria, and work packages. It then flags contradictions between drawings and specs before they turn into expensive rework, assesses risk, improves 3D models, processes public tenders, and evaluates subcontractor bids. Here's the kicker: when an estimator makes a correction, it's saved into the rulebook, so the same fix never has to be made again on future projects. ### Real Results, Real Clients According to UVC Partners, Kuro's customers are saving around 90 hours per bid. And 70% of users say the tool surfaced information they would have otherwise missed. Their client roster includes six of the largest general contractors in the German-speaking region: Goldbeck, Köster, Implenia, Geiger, Riedel, and Hochtief Infrastructure. > "We see the construction industry as the foundation for progress in Europe," says Scherer, co-founder and CEO. "With Kuro, our job is to give it the technical foundation it needs to live up to this continent's ambition." ### The Road Ahead Kuro plans to use the fresh capital to expand its AI platform beyond estimation into procurement, accounting, and compliance—essentially the entire back office. "We started in estimation because that's where a project is born and decided," explains Minkler, co-founder and CPO. "But the problems carry through into everything that follows: too much contradictory data and knowledge that isn't passed on. That's why we're building a system that learns and gets better with every project." In a world where construction margins are razor-thin, that kind of intelligence could be a game-changer.
