Duqu, an Amsterdam fintech, raised $1.6M to help businesses unlock cash trapped in unpaid invoices. With AI underwriting and no invoice selling, it's a new twist on an old problem.

### The Invoice Problem That's Costing European Businesses Billions Picture this: you've finished a big project, sent the invoice, and now you're waiting. And waiting. Meanwhile, payroll is due, your supplier wants payment, and that new hire starts Monday. Sound familiar? You're not alone. Nearly half—47%—of B2B invoices in Western Europe are overdue. That's money you've already earned, stuck in limbo for weeks. Duqu, a Dutch fintech startup based in Amsterdam, just raised €1.5 million ($1.6 million) in pre-Seed funding to tackle exactly this problem. The round was led by Curiosity VC and No Such Ventures, and the company has big plans for both sides of its business. ### What Duqu Actually Does (And Why It's Different) Here's the thing: Duqu isn't factoring. You're not selling your invoices or handing over your customer relationships. Instead, you get a short-term advance based on your outstanding invoices—no minimum, no maximum. You pay a fee only when you use the service. Once approved, the money hits your account within 24 hours, often within an hour. "Businesses can arrange almost everything instantly today, yet after completing the work they can still wait weeks to get paid," says co-founder Maas de Goede. "Growth cannot wait for an invoice to be paid." That's the core insight. You've done the work. Why should your cash flow suffer because your client's payment terms are stuck in the past? ### The AI Engine That Makes Small Advances Profitable Traditional lenders struggle with small credit applications. They're expensive to assess and process, so many providers simply ignore them. Duqu built its own AI underwriting engine that automates around 95% of the credit assessment process. It's been in development for over a year and a half. But here's the really interesting part: Duqu also offers this technology as a white-label solution. Banks, lenders, and leasing companies can plug it in to assess applications automatically—while keeping their own credit policies intact. "Credit assessment is still a labour-intensive process for many providers," says Thijn van Helvoirt of No Such Ventures. "Duqu automates a large part of that process while allowing lenders to retain their own credit policies." That means the same engine could eventually power leasing, mortgages, and buy now, pay later. Duqu isn't just solving a problem for businesses—it's building infrastructure for the broader credit market. ### Traction So Far: Small Numbers, Big Potential Duqu launched in October 2025 (yes, that's recent) and already has almost 1,500 users. The platform has processed €4.6 million ($5.0 million) in applications, with more than €1.2 million ($1.3 million) actually advanced. Not bad for a startup that's barely out of the gate. The company plans to use the fresh capital to grow both its direct business and its white-label partnerships. And with 47% of invoices overdue, the market isn't exactly small. > "Small applications are relatively expensive for traditional lenders to assess and process. Duqu has built a fully AI-driven credit assessment and processing stack. As a result, businesses with smaller credit or working capital needs can be better served." — Herman Kienhuis, Curiosity ### Why This Matters for Founders and Finance Teams If you run a business—any business—you know the pain of waiting for payment. Duqu's approach isn't about lending you money you don't have. It's about unlocking money you've already earned. That's a subtle but important difference. And for lenders? The white-label angle could be a game-changer. Instead of hiring more people to process more applications, they can automate the boring parts and focus on strategy. Everybody wins. The startup is still young, and the numbers are modest. But the problem is massive, and the timing feels right. Sometimes the best ideas are the ones that solve a problem you've been complaining about for years. So next time you're staring at an overdue invoice, wondering how to make payroll, remember: there's a Dutch startup that might just have your back.
